This review is really more of a placeholder than a real review. This place is in walking distance from my house, and they have a full bar. For those of you who don't have babies, I'll connect the dots and let you know that there will definitely be more visits here. So, on this first visit, I had pollo en chipotle. I asked if it had cheese, and was told no. (Dairy has been making me violently ill lately.) I also asked for no beans. When my plate came with beans on it, I started to doubt the answer about the cheese. Since the chipotle sauce was cheese-colored, I just scraped it off to be safe. That makes it kind of tough to evaluate my meal properly, but the chicken was cooked perfectly, and was quite tasty. The rice was good, but I have liked the rice at virtually every Mexican restaurant to which I have ever been. The margaritas were very good. I just had the regular-sized house margaritas. I would definitely recommend. I really liked that our waiter was borderline OCD on replenishing our tortilla chips, and they brought both spicy and mild salsa to the table without us having to ask for two kinds. (I preferred the spicy, but both were very good.) The chips were fairly thick, which is not my first preference; but they were fresh, which is absolutely awesome. They also had a solid children's menu, and they had more seating than customers. I'd most likely come back even if this place wasn't a few blocks from my new house. Since it is, I'll definitely be back.

Excellent fajitas and chicken rice! New management is doing better on service. The food was not greasy as before. If you tried it before and didn't like it give it another chance. They stepped up their game. We believe we got food poisoning from their food. :(

Food is mediocre, service varies from indifferent to hostile. I've been there three times now, trying different dishes and different times of the day. It's close to my house and I really want to like it, but I just can't seem to find a meal that I like or a server that will treat me well.

The best way to describe this place is marginal food with an indifferent staff. Upon being seated I made my way to the restroom to wash my hands...no soap. I told the waitress about it and her response was "I'm sorry I didn't work yesterday" does that mean that nobody had used soap to wash their hands all day...especially the staff. YUCK. The seats are uncomfortable and the food is what you would expect anywhere. They use salad mix with carrots instead of lettuce on their tacos. Our food was brought out before our appetizer...which was just cheese dip. There are way too many choices for Mexican food in the area for this to be one of them. I really wanted this place to be better.

I don't think this place will be around long. Too bad, because I live nearby and was looking forward to having another eatery within walking distance. This is the 4th different restaurant to try to make a go of it at this location... maybe the building is cursed? The experience started with an indifferent (and idle) server ignoring us as we walked in on a Friday night. Not very busy, but we had to wait for another idle server in the back to notice us. After being seated at a dirty table, we waited for about 5 minutes to get a small basket of chips and salsa. Finding paper trash from a prior diner (napkin wrapper) in the basket was a major turn-off. The server was appropriately apologetic and replaced the basket, but it was downhill from there. When the rest of the food arrived, it was cold, and -- in a cardinal sin for Mexican food -- bland. We couldn't finish the meal -- it was that unappealing. Looking around the place, we saw other diners who appeared to feel the same way, as there was a lot of uneaten food on the other tables. Coupling the food and service issues with the overly bright, harsh lighting and loud music, I can't see coming back any time soon. Hopefully (for them,) they are still feeling growing pains, and will sort out their issues. According to their menu, they have other locations (Iowa City), so they ought to know how to fix these problems. In the meantime, there's Villa's Patio in Marion, and the various Las Glorias locations. (Personally, I like Villa's best...)

Every poor review for this place is absolutely correct. The food is not good (how does one screw up MEXICAN food???) and the waitstaff is clearly not happy about being there or genuinely interested in providing service to customers. Got the wrong food, waitress was not apologetic, never brought our appetizer, when the food finally did come out (and mind you, there were only 2 other tables of customers in the restaurant) it was cold. Seriously. And did I mention that I tried this place AGAIN, hoping my first trip was an accident? I did. And I can say with complete honesty that the second trip mirrored the first.

The first time we went it wasn't too bad, but it seemed to get progressively bad on several subsequent visits. We no longer go to this restaurant as both the food and service are subpar.

Loved the chicken/rice dish. The burrito sancho was good but I won't get it again- way too big! Good service, awesome chips and salsa. Only thing we didn't like were the margaritas- little too sweet. We love hacienda margs so they're hard to beat! We'll definitely be back!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
